About the Position

The candidate will be a member of team of engineers developing Linux based network security appliances across the WatchGuard product line, including virtual environments. This individual will be expected to setup and conduct testing and QA tasks for all hardware and virtual platforms. We are looking for collaborative, highly driven, solutions oriented technical professionals that can anticipate problems before they happen and proactively fix things. Communication across multiple locations, time zones and teams are important. The candidate will report to the manager of the Platform Team.

A day in the life ...

You are in a pivotal role on a rapidly growing team on the forefront of network security. Your strong networking background and superb understanding of quality assurance principles will give you the foundation to succeed in this role. On a typical day, you will need to understand the current status of defects and possible fixes, and setup/manage test environments to perform testing and verification of fixes on multiple platforms. Most days are fast-paced and extremely challenging. You can expect to be interrupted and be responsive to requests from other teams and remote sites. Your ability to thrive in an ever-changing environment will give you the tools you need to navigate the stack of daily responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop structured and well-organized test plans and test cases.
  • Design and manage hardware and software test environments.
  • Conduct system testing and report to engineering leadership on test plan completion, results and findings of testing, suggestions on severity and priority of resolution, and possible impacts to customers.
  • Clearly document and report all hardware/software defects, issues, and enhancements via defect tracking tools.
  • Work with the development and QA teams (across all WatchGuard locations), customer support, and product management as needed to ensure we are producing products of the highest quality.
  • Remain flexible to accepting and prioritizing other projects and responsibilities as they arise.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experienced in network device testing.
  • Advanced understanding of networking, network devices, and network protocols.
  • Familiarity with creation of structured system test plans that take into account network topology, server, hardware and software requirements.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies and environments. Knowledge of performance, regression, integration, interoperability, system level and stress/load test execution.
  • Ability to design, install, and manage test environments involving various network configurations, switches, servers, network load testing software, and network analysis tools.
  • Administration level skills using Linux.
  • Familiarity with administration and configuration of WatchGuard firewall products in Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure environments preferred.
  • Experience with scripting languages to support automation and automated test case development preferred.
  • Must have strong attention to detail, and the ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skill, and excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Must be a team-oriented self-starter with good problem-solving skills and the ability to interact positively and successfully with all levels of the company.


  • 5+ years of software quality assurance experience or equivalent work experience
